A deal that would move NBC’s cancelled series “Southland” to TNT is looking more like it’s going to happen, but nothing is in place yet.
TNT has been in talks with Warner Bros. TV (both are part of Time Warner) to revive the crime drama since soon after NBC pulled the plug two weeks ago. The Hollywood Reporter says “it now appears likely” that the show will move to TNT, although Deadline Hollywood notes that NBC and TNT are still haggling over money.
It’s pretty rare for a series to change networks, but it’s happened with unusual frequency in the past year or so. “Scrubs” hopped from NBC to ABC last season, and this season has seen “Project Runway” move from Bravo to Lifetime and “Medium” go from NBC to CBS.
What’s still not clear is just how much “Southland” TNT will be getting. The show aired seven episodes last season and completed six shows this fall before NBC shut it down. That adds up to a cable-sized 13-episode season, and there has been speculation that TNT will air those 13 shows and see how it performs before committing to any more.
